Meet Ms. Moriarty

This is my 25th year teaching and my 3rd year as the K-12 School Library Media Specialist. I am very excited to bring my many years of teaching experience to my this position. I continue to find each year interesting and exciting with so many opportunities for learning. Teaching is my passion and it’s hard for me to imagine doing anything else.  I am extremely grateful to have the opportunity to spend my days with students who continue to inspire and teach me so much.

By way of introduction for those I have not yet met, I grew up in Texas and California until I finished my undergraduate degree in San Diego in 1989.  I then left life in the big city and moved to Alaska- a place still near and dear to my heart.  A few years later we moved to the Seattle area from Cooper Landing Alaska for me to attend graduate school to become a teacher. After completing my Masters Program at Pacific Oaks College Northwest, my husband and I moved to Chimacum and fell in love with the area and decided to make this home. We live on 5 acres with views of the Olympics and feel fortunate to be living in such a beautiful place.

I started teaching in Port Townsend at Grant Street Elementary for part of a year as a long-term substitute as well as substituting in all our neighboring districts and then got my first continuing contract in Quilcene. I taught many different grades and subjects and after 18 wonderful years teaching in the Quilcene community I decided I was ready to work in a bigger district and was hired here in Chimacum in 2014. I love teaching in the community where I live and have enjoyed meeting so many new families.

When I am not working, you will likely find me out on my road bike, working in my garden, exploring the Puget Sound waters by boat, hiking in the beautiful Olympic mountains and spending time with family and friends.  When I have longer breaks, my husband Dave and I love to travel to other countries with a keen interest in culture and natural history. We are both teachers so we are fortunate to have time off together!
