Capital Projects Update

Dear Community:

Here is a summary of the capital projects work completed or being done this summer in our schools.  These projects are made possible using your capital projects and technology dollars from the 2012 and 2018 levies and from state grants.  Earlier, I shared with you that our grade configuration next year will be P-2 at Chimacum Creek Primary School, grades 3-6 for Chimacum Elementary School, and grades 7-12 at the current High School campus.

Capital project goals are as follows:

Chimacum Creek Primary School (P-2)

  • Paint the school’s exterior
  • New Preschool/Head Start playground
  • Improve Preschool and Head Start classrooms (remodeled restrooms)
  • Locate Head Start on Primary campus
  • Install a new garden using state grant

Chimacum Elementary School (3-6 and Pi) (Photos of Future Elementary facilities)

  • Open House: Tuesday, May 5, 6:00 PM
  • Move the school to adjacent middle school wing and offices
  • Current middle school commons remodeled for CES library and lunchroom
  • Install new garden and greenhouse using state dollars
  • Renovated teaching spaces: classrooms, science room, gym, band/choir/auditorium
  • Roof has been replaced
  • New lights and electrical
  • Complete carpet replacement
  • Gym floor replaced
  • New fire alarm system
  • Interior paint
  • New video security
  • Wireless system upgrades
  • Install computers on wheels (COWs)
  • Create storage for fitness and sports
  • Secure entry and interior hallways

7-12 Campus

  • Outdoor pavilion using donation from East Jefferson County Rotary
  • Create secure front entry and ADA access
  • Improve main cafeteria and commons, new flooring and acoustics
  • New restrooms in commons (7 single occupancy bathrooms)
  • Install video security
  • Electrical upgrades installed
  • Better teaching spaces designed to offer advanced instructional opportunities:
    • Three science rooms, one remodeled photo lab to STEM space
    • School garden/greenhouse expanded to include new pavilion for outdoor instruction
    • Wood shop, adding welding and cutting torch booths
    • Technology spaces, improved HVAC for 3-D printing
    • Math pod, three teachers collaborating grades 7-12
    • Music: band/choir/auditorium
    • Art room with kiln and natural light


While some of the projects were completed last summer, the capital projects will continue summer and fall of 2019.

There are public projects with specific bid sets and requirements prepared by MENG architects.  Each bid will be reviewed as well as the qualifications of contractors.  We expect approval at the June 26 board meeting.  Expect to see local advertisements for bids on June 5 and June 12.  The bid set is expected to go to the Board on June 26.
