Superintendent Update

CJSH Commons 2019

November 20, 2019

Greetings!

In this fall update I want to point out the great things happening in the district you should be aware of.  With this letter I hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday season.  I also want to remind you that the annual giving campaign with United Good Neighbors is underway.  I hope you will join me in considering a gift for our local community.  See https://www.givejefferson.org/ for more information and to click for easy online giving.  This is a great way to invest in our local community.

We also welcome Mickey Nagy, Tami Robocker, and Dr. Kristina Mayer to the school board.  They will join current members Dr. Jack McKay and Sarah Martin to make up the new governance team.  On December 11 we will swear them into office, and they will elect new board officers for the year.  Each new member has committed to training and orientation to the district.  On December 4 the district will host a trainer from the Washington State School Directors Association from 4 to 7 pm—the meeting will take place in the 7-12 library and is open to the public.

I also want to thank Mr. Mike Raymond for his board service in 2019 after being appointed in January.  Mike rolled up his sleeves and committed to helping the board and district, using his many years of experience in Chimacum to pitch in.  Thank you, Mike!

I’m also pleased to report that numerous capital projects are substantially complete.  If you have not been to the primary campus or the main campus to see your capital levy dollars at work please come on in and take a look.  Many projects have been completed since school was out last summer, including painting, flooring, new restrooms, and a newly created elementary school library and cafeteria remodel created from the former middle school commons.

The projects show the great, economical investments we are making to improve the look and feel of each campus.  Special Recognition goes to the members and volunteers from our Rotary Club https://ejcrotary.club/ for designing and constructing a new outdoor learning pavilion and donating the whole project to the school district, thanks to the leadership of club President Paul Wyncoop.

I also want to thank the many donors who are helping our students compete in STEM related work like Robotics.  If you haven’t considered a gift, please take a look at the work of the Peninsula Support Organization  https://peninsulaso.org/ to see some of the events taking place for Chimacum students.  To learn more about STEM please see https://washingtonstem.org/ and our local network which Chimacum is a part of here: https://www.westsoundstem.org/.

The last item I would like to point out is our communications program.  This fall we asked a team of parents, volunteers, and staff to help improve the way we communicate with you.  We are creating a communications plan that I am confident will improve the way we reach out to you in this age of social media.    Please let me know if I can help in any way.  I can be reached at (360) 302-5896
