Glossary
Acidic – “Being or containing an acid; of a solution having an excess of hydrogen atoms (having a p.H. of less than 7)”
Atmosphere – “A particular environment or surrounding influence.”
Basic – “Reduced to the simplest and most significant form possible without loss of generality” (having a p.H. of more than 7)
D.O. – “The amount of oxygen dissolved in the water as an indication of the degree of the health of the health of the water and its ability to support a balanced aquatic ecosystem”
Neutral – “Neither moral nor immoral; neither good nor evil; right nor wrong;” acidic nor basic
p.H. – “Provides a measure on a scale from 0 – 14 of the acidity or alkalinity of a solution ( where 7 is neutral and greater than 7 is basic and less than 7 is acidic.)”
Photosynthesis – “A process by which green plants and other organisms turn carbon dioxide and water into carbohydrates and oxygen, using light energy trapped by chlorophyll”
Ppm – “ “parts-per” notation is used, especially in science and engineering, to denote relative proportions in measured quantities; particularly in low-value (high-ratio) proportions at the parts-per-million (ppm), parts-per-billion (ppb), and parts-per-trillion (ppt) level.”
Rural Area – “An area outside cities and towns.”
