This tells how soft or hard the water is, if it is soft it is good for us but for the fish it is good. But if it is hard we still can have hard water and for fish if it gets too hard it is bad!!

Grains Per Gallon	Milligrams Per Liter(mg/l) or Parts Per Million (ppm)	Rating
less then 1.0	less then 17.0	Soft
1.0 - 3.5	17.0 - 60	Slightly Hard
3.5 - 7.0	60 - 120	Moderatley Hard
7.0 - 10.5	120 - 180	Hard
more then 10.5	over 180	Very Hard
