DO or dissolved oxygen
means oxygen that’s dissolved inside a pool of water like rivers which
is there because of diffusion in the
air. It can also be dissolved in the water by plant photosynthesis.
The way to measure DO is by using a DO scale. The DO scale goes from 0-18 ppm but most water systems only need 5-6 ppm. If the DO level is to high the water can become toxic. If the water gets to warm usually the DO level will go down. The opposite happens if the water gets to cold.
What is DO for
DO is important because if we didn’t have DO there wouldn’t be any aquatic plants and animals other than the ones that surface to breath, like whales.
