Salmon

Salmon who are in streams are hard to find because they are camouflaged. They are silver with the rocks in freshwater. They live in areas that are deep. Salmon go through rivers twice, upstream and downstream. When they change from saltwater to fresh water they change color and size. Their gills also have to adjust because there is less dissolved oxygen in the saltwater.

The Puget Sound region is trying to protect salmon habitat and build more. This will help lots of different types of salmon. This will help us too because it will make the water healthy.

All salmon young and old eat benthic macroinvertabrates.
