Stream Ecosystem
Benthic Macroinvertabrates play a big part in the stream ecosystem. They are at the middle of the food chain. They are an indicator species. An indicator species is a sign of the health of the water.
Ways to help save salmon so the stream can stay healthy is to make the stream curved, which helps salmon by letting rest and giving them a spot to spawn. Another way is to add trees and logs that provide nutrients. The last way is to stop the livestock from getting in the stream by using a fence. They could step on the fish or go to the bathroom in it. That would be bad.
