Flow rate is very important. It affects many types of marine life. Without it salmon, and other freshwater fish probably wouldn’t survive. They would use too much energy swimming. But because of water flow, they can let the carry them… it’s energy efficient!

Flow Rate in RSI’s
An RSI, is a salmon Incubator. It nurtures young salmon that are released into the wild at adult-hood.

In the RSI’s the normal flow rate is 2 to 4 gps (gallons per second). People have found out that RSI hatched fish that live in a 4 to 8 gps environment get horrible diseases, such as coagulated yolk (when a salmons fins rot), cold water disease (when a salmon loses its yolk sac/ or tail), and bacterial gill (when its gills clog causing it to suffocate.)
