Temperature affects fish. When water is warm, it holds less oxygen, and can suffocate cold-water fish (fish that require lots of oxygen). Most fish can’t survive temperatures below 32F, of higher than 97F. Unfortunately, we know this because scientist collect fish, then lower or higher the temperature until half of the fish die. It’s sad, but it has allowed us to know that each type fish has a preferred water temp. If the water rises or drops to far from this temperature the fish must adapt, swim away, or die.
