Salinity

To measure salinity in water , you look for how much dissolved salt is in the water or how much salt is concentrated in the water. Concentration is the amount (by weight) of salt in the water and are measured in parts per million. Salinity can also be measured in PSU (practical salinity units) and is measured with a CTD instrument (CTD=conductivity,tempurature,depth). Here are some classes of water;

Fresh Water-less than 1000 ppm

Slightly Saline Water-1000-3000 ppm

Moderatly Saline Water-3000-10000 ppm

Highly Saline Water-10000-35000 ppm
