What is Turbidity?
Turbidity is how much suspended material
is in the water. A very turbid river or stream will have lots of minerals
in the water. Turbidity is measured in NTU's.
Turbid water occurs in fast flowing rivers. This is a result of the stream
“bouncing ‘’around it’s bed and picking up dirt and
sticks. We scoop up water and put it in a glass vile. Then we put it into
the turbidity sensor. The turbidity
sensor shines a light through the water in the vile. There is another sensor
on the other side that picks up how much light comes through. Then the sensor
sends the results to the sensor interface. The sensor interface processes
the results and converts them into min. max. And mean. These are the three
ways of measuring our results. We take these samples from the rapider parts
of the water so; we get real water and not slow settle water. Turbid water
has ups and downs for the fish. The ups are that the predators can’t
see them as well, but the fish can’t see the predators either.
