at Cispus and here are some of them.

Alder/Alnus glutinosa
Grows 0.5 for first 30-40 years mature for 60 years. Distictive in winter. Needs light.


Devils Club/ Oplopanax horridum
Edable. Grows 1-7 meters high. Sharp yellow spins 5-10mm long. Older stems gray bark younger twigs and buds redish brown. Blades 10- 35cm wide and as long as stout petioles. Flowers 5 petals 5-6mm wide. Berries some what flatend 5-8mm long.

Dougfir/Pseudotsugamenziesii
Shape: Pyramid shaped crown. Needles: Length
3/4-1 1/4 log blunt. Bark: Smoth gray when young become thick redish brown
ridges. Cones: 3-4 inches long.

Maple/Acerglabrum
Size: Shrub to small tree 1-7 meters in height. Leaves: 3-5
lobes 7-10cm wide dark green top greyish green under turns red in fall. Bark:
Thin smoth roughend on older trees dark,redish on younger twigs become
grayish with age.

Oregon Grape/Berberis aquifolium
Stems reaching 7.5-15cm in height, has 3-5 waxy green oval leaves,
15-43 spins teeth bright yellow flowers, and blue berries in the fall. Low
growing found east of the Cascades.
Western Cedar/Thuja plica
Reaches 200 feet high with 16 feet in diameters trunk older
trees fluted quite temperd. leaves: small overlaping scale like leaves shiny
dark green in color 1/16-1/8 in long. Cones: 3/4 in long brown. Bark:cinnamon-red
on young stems gray on trunks. live on moist hill sides besides streams.
