January 22, 2021 Fall Sports Update

High school fall sports practices for football, volleyball, x-country, girls swim & dive, girls soccer, and cheer will begin on Monday, February 1. Football will practice in Port Townsend on the high school lower field, x-country will practice in Port Townsend at the high school, and girls swim & dive will be at Mountain View pool. Girls soccer and volleyball will practice in Chimacum at the high school. The cheer location has not yet been determined. All practices will begin at 3:15-3:30pm and will end by 5:30pm.

We are holding a parent meeting on Thursday, January 28, at 6:30pm. This will be a Zoom meeting and the link will be sent out next week. Many student athletes and families still need to sign forms and turn in physicals in Final Forms. This will need to be completed before your athlete can step on the field or court.

Due to COVID, we will be unable to have spectators at games. We know the importance of parents being able to watch and support their student athletes, so we will be live streaming the games on either Facebook or YouTube. As soon as we know which site, we will send out the information and will try to have a practice stream before game day for families to practice connecting to.

We are playing in the Olympic League against Port Angeles, Sequim, Kingston, N. Mason, Klahowya, Olympic, and S. Kitsap JV. We will be referred to as East Jefferson on the schedules. The game schedules will be shared at the parent meeting and will be posted on our website. Home game locations will take place in Chimacum and Port Townsend. The athletes for each team will decide with the coaches how they want to wear uniforms. They can mix match them, switch uniforms on game days, etc. The more the athletes make decisions as a team, the more they will be unified.

Transportation is being discussed to provide rides to practices. Port Townsend buses come out of Chimacum, so they will be able to bring Chimacum students out to Port Townsend before practices begin. If we have enough drivers, we will have a bus run from Port Townsend to Chimacum to drop athletes off for a 3:30pm practice time start. Please let the Athletic Director at your school know if your child will need transportation for practice so we can plan seating.

In order for athletes to participate in any sport, they must wear a mask at all times. We will have spare masks on hand, but please send your child with a couple masks in case one gets ripped or muddy. Coaches will be sanitizing shared equipment each night before use the next day. When athletes are arriving, leaving, or at practice, they will need to maintain social distancing, except during certain activities.

We are extremely excited to begin sports for our student athletes! Coaches and athletes from both schools will be working together to be able to participate safely and competitively. We look forward to showing how our communities can come together to provide opportunities for our youth.

Attention Families!!! Fall Sports Are Starting!!

High School sports practices for Fall Season will begin on Monday, February 1, 2021. The sports that will be offered are Football, Volleyball, Girls Soccer, X-Country, Girls Swim, and Cheer. Boys Tennis has been moved to the Winter Season to give the courts time to dry out. We will be in the Olympic League to stay in the Northwest Region created by Governor Inslee. Due to our current participation numbers and the fact that we are playing bigger teams, all sports for Fall will be combined with Port Townsend. We are excited for this combination because it will be safer for our students and we will be able to give them more opportunities.

Things are changing daily and February 1st will be here before you know it. The season is only 7 weeks long, so please make sure your child is registered in Final Forms and all their paperwork is up to date. If you need to schedule a physical, Susan Bone O'Brien is offering them Tuesdays and Thursdays at our School Based Health Clinic. Please call 360-385-9400 option 3 to schedule one. Athletes cannot be on the field without up-to-date paperwork. A mandatory Zoom parent meeting will be scheduled within the next week, possibly Sunday the 24th. Please watch daily for updates! Thank you again and we look forward to getting our student athletes back on the courts/fields and having fun!!

Middle School sports will be starting later. Keep watching for updates and get registered and eligible in Final Forms!
