Message to Families

July 29, 2022

Dear Chimacum Families,

I hope this note finds you well and that you are enjoying these long summer days and staying cool! I want to update you on a couple of topics.

Why are the buses in the parking lot? We are not selling the buses! Our maintenance team and transportation department are working with a contractor to rehabilitate and restripe the area around the transportation center. This will improve safety and efficiency for our team. This project is a collaborative effort with our Port Townsend School district partners, with whom we have a transportation cooperative to share resources.

Staffing Updates- As you may have noticed, we have been doing quite a bit of hiring! Our Principals Mr. Stevens (CJSHS) and Mr. Schwartz (CES/CCP) will let you know specifics for your child’s school soon. We have hired new counselors, new teachers, and a new administrative assistant.

In the central office there are a couple of changes to let you know about. First, a big congratulations to Lisa Corbit who has been my Executive Assistant and Communications Specialist for the past several months. Ms. Corbit will be the new Dean of Students at CJSHS! In addition, Technology Director Tim Yaley has announced his resignation to take another position elsewhere, and we are analyzing our resources and needs to decide what is in store for technology staffing.

September 1- Save the Date! We are planning back to school days at all our schools for the afternoon and early evening of Thursday September 1. You have an opportunity to see friends, teachers, and other staff, as well as get updates on your clases, your student laptop or Chromebook, and other vital information. Details will be out by mid to late August, but put this fun family event on your calendar!

Rivals Swag- Support our athletes and show you colors- order your Rivals gear here! Store closes August 3.

Website Update- Imagine you are driving through a tunnel and you believe that the light at the end of the tunnel is the exit. But it's really a dead end. That has been our work with a new website contractor. We thought we were making headway and we hit impasse with them. Lots of disappointment and frustration, but we will persist in updating our website with a different provider. Long story short- we are not going live with a new website for a while. We apologize for any inconvenience.
