We are excited to be contracting with Ann Renker from the OESD to help support us in providing services in the general education classroom for students who are English Language Learners with an emphasis on inclusionary practices and in growing the capacity of our teaching staff. Ann will be coming for an on-site observation in early November to learn about our schools and to observe our ELL students. In addition, she will be available for a combination of on-site or remote coaching/consultation, professional development, and resource development to the GLAD trained teachers and to other teachers with ELL students in their classrooms.
All staff will receive training on a topic related to Multilingual Education in the spring. As the ELL Coordinator, I will be meeting with Ann on a regular basis to learn more about my role as coordinator and to help facilitate this process. Our language development program is the Supportive Mainstream model. This model is described as a consistent, focused, and effective language development instruction provided through ELL pull-out/push in instruction or through small group work with the classroom teacher. Language instruction is delivered in English by teachers who have been specifically trained or will be trained in the field of second language acquisition and strategies.
