Superintendent's Message 11/09/2023

Dear Chimacum Families,

I want to acknowledge the Veterans Day holiday tomorrow, and let you know each of our schools will be honoring veterans in assemblies this afternoon. We believe that our veterans deserve this acknowledgement every day, and this day is always an extra special one. As the father of a Coast Guard veteran, I understand the challenges and angers our service people face to defend our society and democracy. It is not to be taken for granted.

About 18% of the residents of our district are veterans. They are integral to our thriving Chimacum community. A deep bow of gratitude to all of our current and former service people in and beyond Chimacum. Thank you for the sacrifices you and your families have made, and for your dedication to the common good.

I am also excited to announce that we will be holding a special election in February for a new four-year Capital Projects Levy. We think this levy will continue to support safe and inviting learning environments by taking care of our aging infrastructure. You can find out more about this capital levy at www.csd49/levy-information.

Lastly, if you have not had a chance to fill out our annual family survey, please take time and go to the survey now. The survey closes Friday December 08, 2023. We use this data to plan, make adjustments to programs, budget, and adjust staffing- it really helps drive our work and make CSD the heart center of a proud and thriving community!

Superintendent's Message 10/27/2023

Dear Chimacum Families,

The end of October is a delightful family time of year. I have vivid and fond memories of my sons’ creative costume making, messy pumpkin carving, and taking them trick-or-treating. I am looking forward to these all over again with baby Greta who this year will be a pumpkin- she didn’t have a choice in the matter just yet. 🙂

We strive to be the heart center of our proud and vibrant Chimacum community. Family participation is critical to this and we want to do all we can to be invitational and joyful, and create belonging. Next week we have conferences across the district and hope all families will participate. We are flexing our teacher schedules to do after work meeting times and Zoom. Don’t forget to sign up!

Another great community gathering is Trunk or Treat, sponsored by our fabulous PTA. We expect to see lots of costumes and activities for kids and families to see and do. Fingers crossed, the weather is looking cooperative!

The PTA is a volunteer-run organization that exists to create community and provide support, friendship, and information for families, students and staff. Please join the PTA if you haven’t already, and support your fellow parents who are putting together events like Trunk or Treat and book fair on behalf of all of us. You can learn more about joining here:

Superintendent's Message

October 13, 2023

Dear Chimacum Families,

October is a special month in the world of education as we celebrate National Principals Month! Our Chimacum School District principals Ryan Stevens, Leigh Schwartz, and Sarah Walker are nothing short of remarkable, and I am proud to take time to celebrate their persistence, wisdom, collaboration, and unwavering commitment to our families and student success.

In small school districts like Chimacum principals wear many hats, from visionary educational leaders to compassionate mentors, from problem solvers to champions of diversity and inclusion. Our three principals are collaborating to create environments where students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. They guide our teachers, staff, and students on a path of continuous improvement and innovation, always seeking ways to enhance learning experiences.

As we observe National Principals Month, I invite you all to join me in expressing our gratitude and appreciation to our dedicated principals. Please take a moment to reach out to them, whether through a kind word or a message of support.

To our principals, thank you for your hard work, your passion for education, and your commitment to the students of the Chimacum School District. Your leadership is the cornerstone of our Chimacum Promise and we are incredibly fortunate to have you at the helm of our amazing schools.

Warmly,
Dr. Scott Mauk, Superintendent
