This course is designed to prepare students for entrance into non-calculus pathway introductory college level mathematics courses. The course addresses key learning standards for high school Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II standards essential for college and career readiness.
The course will differ from previous mathematics that you may have experienced as it will focus on developing the Common Core’s Eight Standards of Mathematical Practice (http://www.corestandards.org/Math/Practice/) and Social and Emotional Learning (https://tinyurl.com/SEL) -explained in each of your thinking processes while focusing on in-depth understanding of essential mathematical topics necessary to future college coursework and real-life applications. The topics of study will include algebraic expressions, equations, linear, quadratic, and exponential functions, measurement and proportional reasoning, and interpreting statistical data. However, the focus of the course will be on higher-order thinking skills including providing clear, concise, logical reasoning, engaging in multiple solution strategies, and reflection and evaluation of your own and other’s reasoning.
