Alfonso (Al) Gonzalez has been teaching for 28 years, 22 of those right here in Chimacum. Al has taught 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Science and other subjects in the middle school and is happy to continue teaching 6th grade Science as part of the elementary team with Ms. Berg and Mr. Brennan. Al got his Bachelor’s degree from UCLA and a Master’s degree from Grand Canyon University and he is a National Board Certified Teacher in the area of Early Adolescent Generalist. In 6th grade, students begin by learning about Mt Saint Helens to understand that amazing volcano that we get to visit during our Cispus trip. Sixth graders then get to learn Science, especially physical science, using the Lego Mindstorms EV3 robots as part of the STEM Robotics 101 curriculum! By the spring, students will participate in the Environmental Stewardship Project focusing on our very own Chimacum Creek watershed as part of the NOAA Ocean Guardian School program making 6th grade an amazing year for rich Science experiences. This is why Al loves teaching 6th grade, because of all the amazing learning opportunities for our great kids!
